The Globe Model “INCH” sprinkler and cap have been de- signed to be used in conjunction with the “INCH” installa- tion tool handheld or with extension). The installation tool allows for ease of sprinkler paint cap (332870 Commercial Paint Cap or 332871 Residential Paint Cap) removal and installation of the sprinkler cover plate.
The handheld installation tool is to be utilized when the sprinklers are accessible. The handle has been sized to accommodate a variety of sprinkler installers as well to slightly increasing their reach.
The installation tool to be used with an extension has been designed to utilize either 3/4” CPVC or 1” CPVC as an extension to the tool. When utilizing 3/4” piping the piping has a friction fit on the outside diameter of the piping and also to the inside diameter of the tool. If 1” CPVC piping is utilized the inside diameter of the piping is utilized to have a friction fit on the outside diameter of the installation tool. This allows for a contractor to remove the paint cap and install the cover plate from the floor level even when the sprinkler is at a much higher elevation.
STEP 1. Attach either 3/4” or 1” CPVC piping to the end of the tool having a diameter slightly smaller than 1 1/2”. (Step 1 only for “INCH” tool with extension)
STEP 2. Use the opening on the “INCH” tool to slide the tool over the protrusion on the end of the paint cap which is installed on the “INCH” sprinkler. The protrusion should be centered in the tool.
STEP 3. Gently pull tool perpendicular from the surface the sprinkler is installed on until the paint cap has been fully removed from the sprinkler.
STEP 4. Retrieve the paint cap from the tool, and replace the paint cap with the desired escutcheon. The escutcheon will fit in the end of the tool with approximately a 3 1/2” diameter.
STEP 5. Carefully line up the tool with the installed sprinkler, ensuring not to cause damage to the sprinkler’s operating element.
STEP 6. Gently push the cover plate into position ensur- ing a slight annular gap in accordance with the sprinkler datasheet.
